How do you open up an epic mega concert like FireAid? With an epic surprise collaboration — two Billies: Billie Joe Armstrong and Billie Eilish.
Green Day got things started at the Kia Forum, where they surprised fans with Eilish to help them perform, "Last Night on Earth" from 2009's 21st Century Breakdown. The song took on a new meaning as Eilish sang the song's lyrics after the devastation LA wildfires, "I'm here to honor you/ If I lose everything in the fire/ I'm sending all my love to you."
After Billie walked off the stage following her performance, Green Day's Armstrong shared with cheering fans, "Los Angeles! We are still alive! We love Los Angeles, and we've got your back."
FireAid took place in two locations — the Intuit Dome and Kia Forum — and featured some of the most unforgettable moments and surprise collaborations in music history. Performing at the Intuit Dome were Billie Eilish, Earth, Wind & Fire, Gracie Abrams, Jelly Roll, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Baby, Olivia Rodrigo, Peso Pluma, Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder, Sting and Tate McRae. And taking the stage at the Kia Forum are Alanis Morissette, Anderson .Paak, Dave Matthews & John Mayer, Dawes, Graham Nash, Green Day, John Fogerty, Joni Mitchell, No Doubt, P!NK, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks and The Black Crowes.
As per the FireAid website, "Contributions made to FireAid in connection with the FireAid benefit concert and other direct donations will be distributed under the advisement of the Annenberg Foundation and will be distributed for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives to prevent future fire disasters throughout Southern California."
