Big News For Downton Abbey Fans

A "Downton Abbey" movie will apparently happen after all. We told you before that creator Julian Fellowes is working on a script, but that the project hadn't been given the green light. According to Michael Edelstein, the president at NBCUniversal International Studios, that's all changed - and the project is officially in the works with an estimated start date of sometime next year.

“There’s a movie in the works. It’s been in the works for some time,” says Edelstein. “We are working on getting the script right and then we’ve got to figure out how to get the (cast) together. Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we’re hopeful to make a movie sometime next year."

What's not clear is how much of the original cast will be participating. Word is that many of them are surprised that a movie 'has been in the works.' As Lady Edith herself Laura Carmichael puts it: “Well, tell my agent, because we’re still waiting to know. We’re hoping that will happen soon.”
