There are plenty of weird ways to use Kool-Aid. In high school you probably dyed your hairwith it. You might have even eaten fried Kool-Aid at a state fair, too. But did you know you can also use Lemonade Kool-Aid to clean your dishwasher?
Oh yeah? OH YEAH!
Ayn-Monique Klahre of The Kitchn tested out this seemingly farfetched housecleaning tip and says it totally works.
But how?
"The premise is that the citric acid in the lemonade (and it has to be the unsweetened kind, and not another flavor) is strong enough, especially combined with the hot water going through your dishwasher, to lift those stains right off," Klahre explains.
So she bought a few packets at the grocery store, emptied out her dishwasher, put the powder in the detergent area and started a cycle. After 45 minutes and a brief scrubbing, all of the rust stains and gray film that had built up on the inside of her dishwasher for years came right off.
"I didn't even know it could get that clean," she writes. "I'd just assumed it was beyond hope!"
So there you have it. Unsweetened Lemonade Kool-Aid also belongs in your cleaning kit as well as in your pantry.
