North Carolina Woman Struck in Hit-And-Run While Walking With Driver's Ex

Police in Wilmington, North Carolina say they've identified the driver of a vehicle seen in a dramatic hit-and-run caught on surveillance video last week.

Investigators say Courtnay Danielle Lawrence struck a woman while she was walking down the road with Lawrence's ex-boyfriend. Police were able to identify Lawrence as the driver of the vehicle thanks to a photo she posted of her damaged car on social media. The victim, Christina Benson told ABC 13 that she managed to put her hands up in time to save her life.

"Had I hit that concrete without having them there, I don't know that I would be here," Benson said.

Benson said that she was walking down the street with her neighbor when she heard a loud horn from behind. Suddenly, she was on top of a car, and then thrown to the ground where she landed on her shoulder and busted the side of her head.

"Because my hand was there, it didn't have full impact, thank God," she said.

Benson didn't think it was an accident - especially after the driver left the scene and then returned for a moment.

"I thought, for sure, this person would be like, 'Oh, my God, I lost control. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hit you. This looks crazy. Can I help you?' No. No. She pulled up beside me and slammed on the brakes and said, 'Where did he go?' and I was like, 'I don't know."

Benson said she had no idea who the driver was, but that the woman's face was burned into her memory.

Police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads them to Lawrence.
