The U.S. Supreme Court is blocking a ruling that ordered the redrawing of congressional maps in North Carolina.  A lower court's ruling said North Carolina Republicans violated the Constitution by drawing electoral districts intended to maximize their party's chances of winning.  The Supreme Court's decision to stay the order means the current districts most likely won't be altered before the November mid-term congressional elections.

The court didn't specify why they granted a request from North Carolina's Republican legislative leaders to put the lower court's ruling on hold.
